Marian A. (Eady) Chalmers resided at 5302 Autumn Lane, Lafayette, until the age of 93, and passed away peacefully on October 1st, [where she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Jolaine and Paul]. She was born August 6, 1921 in Iowa Falls, IA to the late Reuben T. and Alice M. (Jaggs) Eady. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School, and resided there until her marriage on April 20, 1941, to Glen H. Ubben. Marian and Glen had one daughter, Jean Ann. On May 27, 1949 she married James A. Chalmers in Rapid City, SD, and they had one daughter, Jolaine. Prior to her retirement in 1986, she was employed by TRW for 24 years in the finance department. She enjoyed many recreational pursuits including sewing, needle work, landscape painting, crossword puzzles, reading, and a good game of cards. She traveled extensively with her husband both abroad, and across the United States in their RV. They were also ballroom dancers and avid rose growers. Marian was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church since 1958, where she volunteered in the food pantry and was a member of the altar guild. Until 2 months ago, she still helped assemble the church newsletter every month.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jim and, brother Arthur Eady. She is survived by her daughters Jean Ann Southard (Gary) of Cedar Falls, IA, and Jolaine Roberts (Paul) of Lafayette. She was grandmother to Michelle Haan (Matt) of Hudson, IA, Bryan Stroud (Kristi) of Lafayette and Jamie DiDomenico (John) of Bolingbrook, IL. She also adored her 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
Services will be held Saturday, October 8th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 600 Ferry Street, Lafayette, IN (enter through the garden on Ferry Street). A reception will be held at the conclusion of the service. Burial will follow in the St. John’s Memorial Garden. Reverend Bradley Pace, Rector, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Food Pantry, 600 Ferry Street, Lafayette, IN, or Franciscan Alliance Foundation– St. Elizabeth Hospice, 1501 Hartford Street, Lafayette, IN. Envelopes will be available at the church.
