Maria De Jesus Barron Rivera was welcomed by her Heavenly Father while surrounded by her loving family and friends! Maria led a life of faith and positively influenced others in every part of her journey through this life.
Maria was born December 23, 1933 in Linares, Nuevo León, Mexico. Born to Mateo and Consuelo Barron she was the oldest of 5 girls. She moved to Texas with her family as a young girl. In 1968, Maria gave birth to her son Michael who was her pride and joy. She worked in retail for years with Blocks Department Store and Stuart's Women's Wear in Indianapolis; Harlingen, TX; and Fort Wayne, IN. She also worked and retired from Purdue in 1999.
Maria loved her faith, her family and her country. One of her proudest moments was becoming a U.S. citizen.
She is survived by her son, Michael Rivera (Janis) of Carmel and her two granddaughters Gabriella and Sofia who were the lights of her life; her four loving sisters, Connie Sharp (Brian) and Nina Burke both of Lafayette, Stella Barron of Redondo Beach, CA, and Fran Beard (Bobby) of Frankfort. She is also survived by three nieces and four nephews.
Friends may call from 1:30 until 3:30 pm on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette with Pastor Duane Quesenberry officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow View Cemetery, 3733 Poland Hill Road, Lafayette.
