Margy Ann Shoaf, 86, of Lafayette, passed away peacefully at IU Health Arnett Hospital on January 28th surrounded by her children. She was born January 17th, 1929 in Lafayette to the late Cecil E. and Edna L. Painter Haupt. Margy grew up in Williamsport, Indiana where she graduated from Williamsport High School in 1947. She also attended DePauw University. Margy married Max E. Shoaf on October 24th, 1948 in Newport, Indiana. As a young couple during the Big Band Era, Margy and Max enjoyed dancing together at small town dance halls. Dancing was a love they would share during their lives together. Max preceded her in death on June 24th, 2005. In the early years, Margy was a homemaker and took pride in caring for her young family and their home. Later, she worked in the blueprint room at TRW for 16 years. She retired early to care for Max, who was a paraplegic during the last 24 years of his life. Margy was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and family camping trips. She loved visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are daughters, Max Ann Bechtold (Gregg) of Avon, IN, Karen K. Weatherwax (Steven) of Lafayette, IN; sons, Michael H. Shoaf (Edie Sarra) of Gosport, IN, and Cecil Eugene Shoaf (Beth) of Attica, IN, eight grandchildren, Eric D. Hicks (Kelly), Courtney R. Hayes (Bruce), Matthew R. Bechtold (Julie), Carie A. Herbst (Chet), Casey E. Shoaf, Amanda K. Hamaker (Craig), Andrew G. Shoaf, and Grey Damon; eleven great-grandchildren, and six step great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Nancy M. York (Lloyd) of Williamsport, IN, and several nieces and nephews. Margy never met a stranger and made many friends during her stay at Saint Anthony Rehab and Nursing Center in Lafayette where she had lived since August. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff who loved and cared for her there. A heartfelt thanks, also, to the staff on the 5th floor at IU Health Arnett Hospital for your expert care and kindness. We are also deeply grateful to Shirley Downham of Great Lakes Caring Hospice. Visitation will be Sunday, 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette. A Remembrance Service will follow at 3:00 .Private interment at Meadow View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margy's memory to Saint Anthony Rehab and Nursing Center's Activities Department, 1205 North 14th Street, Lafayette, IN 47904.
