Margaret “Marge” Rene Hamilton, 89, of Lafayette, died at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Regency Place.
Born Nov. 22, 1920, in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret Vest Wood. She graduated from Glenbard High School in Glenbard, Ill.
She married J. Stanley Rene and he preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1968. She then married William “Bill” J. Hamilton on Jan. 4, 1986, and he died on July 3, 1990.
Mrs. Hamilton worked in graduate admissions at Purdue University and was retired.
She was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star 507 and American Legion Post 11 Auxiliary, where she was past president and district past president. She was a life member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, 8&40 Tippecanoe Salon 135, VFW Auxiliary 3585, Navy Club Ship 12 Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. Surviving are a daughter, Terri Rene of Lafayette; a son, Raymond M. Rene (wife: Than Hai) of Bloomington; and a brother, Roscoe Wood (wife: Lois) of Omaha, Neb.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Jay Rene (fiancée: Tiffany Light), Misha Hess (husband: Jason), Brett Conrad (wife: Kellie) and Ryan Rene; and 4 great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jacob Hess, and twins, Brenna and Bryce Conrad.
Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., with American Legion Auxiliary Unit 11 Past Presidents service at 1:45 p.m. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Pastor Colleen Barkdall officiating.
