M. Luella Hughes, 90, of Lafayette passed away at 9:40 am on Monday, September 11, 2017 at St. Elizabeth East.

She was born on September 28, 1926 in Lafayette to the late Ervin and Orpha (Culver) Bloyd.

After graduating from Battle Ground High School Luella married Paul E. Hughes in 1952 in Brookston, He died on May 17, 2000.

Luella had sold Avon, and worked as a Sales Clerk at Loeb’s Department Store.

She was a member of Evergreen Wesleyan Church, and the Eagles Auxiliary. Luella had also served as a past president of Jenks Sr Citizens Center. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and coloring books.

Surviving are her daughters, Judith Smith of Lafayette and Debra (James) Courtney and Joyce (Michael) Pearson both of West Lafayette; a sister, Sarah Mitchell of Lafayette and a brother, Ed (Donna) Bloyd of West Lafayette. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.

Luella was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Barlow-Haas, a grandson, a sister and five brothers.

Friends may call from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am on Saturday September 16, 2017 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with Rev. Joseph Park officiating. Burial will follow at Battle Ground Cemetery.
