Joan Oppy of New Richmond passed away October 24, 2020 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East hospital. She was age 96.
Mrs. Oppy was a homemaker and member of the New Richmond United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She was a New Richmond High School graduate in 1942. She enjoyed genealogy, card indexing for the Crawfordsville library, and making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for her extended family new borns.
She was born in her home in New Richmond, as were her parents, and fulfilled her stated dream of being married, raising four children and spending her lifetime in her beloved town until passing. She provided a significant amount of town and family history throughout her life, assisting many appreciative recipients.
Born August 22, 1924, she was the daughter of Gaylord Tribby and Mildred (Dunn) Tribby. She married David Miller Oppy June 22, 1946. Survivors include: son Patrick Oppy of New Richmond; daughter Starr (Oppy) DeJesus of LaGrange, Kentucky, daughter Gaylora (Oppy) Murphy of Fishers, and son Christopher Oppy of Renton, Washington; grandchildren, Amanda (Oppy) Chastain, Andrew Oppy, Kennet DeJesus, Andrea (DeJesus) Baker, Claire (Oppy)McIlvain, Clayton Oppy, and Grace Oppy; great-grandchildren, Ellie Chastain, Maxwell Chastain, Ben Oppy, Kyran Oppy, Makinsey DeJesus, Sydney Baker, Miles Baker, Henry Baker, Quinn Baker, Absalom McIlvain and Magnolia McIlvain.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brother Gene Tribby.
