M. Jay Slabaugh, 69, of Lafayette passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, February 23, 2014 at St. Elizabeth East. He was born December 17, 1944, in Goshen, IN, to the late Simon and Laura Slabaugh. On December 16, 1967 he married Linda Cottingham in Kokomo and she survives. Jay worked for Canteen Vending as a Maintenance Supervisor for 11 years and retired in 2008. He had previously worked for Service America Vending Company as a Route Supervisor for 30 years. He was a member of Corvette Owners Association. As an avid car enthusiast, he looked forward to taking his 81 Corvette to car shows every summer. Jay enjoyed music and singing, being outdoors, doing yard work and landscaping. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and always shared good laughs and stories. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and his dog, Puppy. Surviving along with his wife are his children Karen S. Andrews (Robert) of Lafayette, Jason G. Slabaugh of Rossville, Cheryl L. Foley of Lafayette and grandchildren Scott and Kevin Andrews and Sean Foley. Also surviving is his sister Esther Yoder of Nappanee, brothers Fred Slabaugh of Elkhart, Ronnie Slabaugh of Nappanee and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Funeral Service 1:00 PM Saturday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating. Burial will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Those wishing may contribute to the American Lung Association in Jay's memory.
