Lucille M. Cicco Haines, 86, of Lafayette, died on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 5 Star Residences of Lafayette.
She was born February 18, 1935 in Cincinnati, OH to Eugene and Bertha Cicco. She was a high school graduate and attended the University of Cincinnati prior to transferring to the University of Florida in Gainesville. She graduated with a degree in Nursing from the St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in St. Petersburg, FL. Lucille married U.S Postal employee, Carl David Haines on October 10, 1970 in Lafayette. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2000.
Lucille moved to West Lafayette from St. Petersburg, FL in 1970. She was quickly hired as a nurse at St. Elizabeth where she was selected to attend a nursing program at Roswell Park Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, New York. Upon graduating from this program, Lucille was assigned as the first Nurse Enterostomal Therapist at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Lucille made the difficult decision to leave St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1986 when she accepted a position at George Davis Manor in West Lafayette from which she retired on July 17, 1998.
Mrs. Haines enjoyed flower gardening, animals, music, dancing and singing. She especially enjoyed singing in the choir at Eastside Assembly of God.
She is survived by many good friends and several step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a half-brother, Roy Sears.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am on Tuesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
