Lewis J. Beeler, 78
Lewis Jay Beeler, 78, of Lafayette, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Clarian Arnett Hospital.
Born Sept. 1, 1932, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Lewis John and Hazel Bull Beeler.
He graduated from Dayton High School, received his bachelor?s degree in agricultural education from Purdue University in 1955, and earned a master?s degree in business administration from Indiana University in 1957.
On Dec. 4, 1976, he married Donna L. Boehle-Fitzgerald in Lafayette, and she survives.
Mr. Beeler was a farmer, and was a lifelong resident of Sheffield Township. He also drove a school bus for the Tippecanoe School Corp. He was chairman of Tippecanoe County Board of Elections, was on the Tipmont REMC board of directors, and was a board member of Mulberry Telephone Co.
He had been a member of Dayton Presbyterian Church since 1944, where he served as an elder. He was a life member of Lafayette Home Hospital, Purdue Alumni Association, IU Alumni Association, Indiana Farm Bureau and John Purdue Club; a member of P-Mans Club, Alpha Zeta, Ceres Purdue Reamer Club, Merou Grotto, Scottish Rite, F&AM, York Rite, Murat Shrine; and was past master of Dayton Masonic Lodge 103. He was a former member of Tippecanoe County School Reorganization Committee.
He enjoyed playing cards, traveling and spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
Surviving with his wife are his children, Timon D. Fitzgerald Jr. (wife: Melissa) of New Palestine, Kelly M. Freels (husband: Jeff) of Franklin, Melissa A. Tebben (husband: Mike) of Lake Villa, Ill., Anne M. Gallaway (husband: Scott) of Franklin, Tenn., and Brian W. Beeler (wife: Kristie), Francis S. Beeler (wife: Rhonda), Lewis J. Beeler VI (wife: Stacey) and Mary Branstetter (husband: Chris), all of Lafayette.
Also surviving are 26 grandchildren.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. today, Oct. 19, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., with Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at Dayton Presbyterian Church, Dayton, the Rev. David Comstock officiating, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Interment at Dayton Cemetery. My memories of Lewis take me to pork chop dinners that he treated Bill and me with. He was a generous, Christian man, who was loved and will be missed. With sympathy, Jane.

Lewie, will be greatly missed. His presence at the back pew at church was always a warm welcome to all. He kept the congregation up to date on all the Purdue scores. He had a wonderful speaking voice. He was the first person at church who accepted me and my family as if we had always been there. Our congregation, the community and your wonderful family have been blessed that he was a part of our lives. He has left an empty spot, but I will always feel his being at that pew every Sunday .
