Larry M. Melady, 64, of Lafayette, passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at I.U. Health Arnett Hospital. Born October 23, 1956 in South Bend, IN, he was the son of the late John David and Nona (Frazier) Melady.
Larry married the love of his life and soul mate Charlotte Morgan, on February 27, 1987 in Lafayette, IN. He was a semi-truck driver for over 30 years, driving for Shaffer Trucking, LCL Transit, American Freightways, and FedEx Freight. He loved his church, St. James Lutheran, in Lafayette, IN. He had strong faith, and he loved volunteering as a Sunday School teacher for his daughter’s class and being a lay minister at St. James for a number of years. He was also very passionate about cars and cooking. He is remembered as having a strong wit and being someone who could make friends easily with his many stories.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Melady of Lafayette, his daughter, Nisha Friend (Jordan) of Lafayette, his sons, Justin Oakley (Aika) of Lafayette and Joshua Oakley (Tasha) of Dayton, granddaughters, Whitney and Alli, and dogs, Gizmo and Luna. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John K. Melady (Jennifer King) of Florida.
There will not be a funeral service at this time due to COVID-19. A memorial service may be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette, IN or the Almost Home Humane Society in Lafayette, IN.
