I met Larry in 1971 when we both were letter carriers at the US Post Office in Sunnyvale, California. He had just detached from the navy where he was stationed at Moffett Field. We quickly became close friends through our shared love of sports cars and sports car racing. We attended several races in the Bay Area and Southern California. My favorite memory is in May, 1972 when we drove his bright yellow Porsche 911 from Sunnyvale to Indiana to attend the Indy 500. We stayed several nights in his family home in Otterbein with his parents and sister. They were very kind to me during our stay. In those days there were very few sports cars of any type in that part of the country and I remember getting quite a few strange looks from the locals as we cruised through town in that car of his! After Larry moved back home he and I lost touch, but every year at this time I think of him and that trip we took. This weekend marks the 50th anniversary of the trip and I was hoping to reach out to him to reminisce about those days. I am very sorry to learn of his passing. Rest In Peace, Larry. You were a good friend. Doug Miller

I met Larry during a COM course while I attended Purdue. Over the semester, my group had built an amazing connection to him learning about his stories in Elkhart. One of my favorite memories of Larry was walking onto the floor to hangout for the day and seeing him with his breakfast looking out the window at the garden. I hope he has found a similar sense of peace.

Larry was a wonderful friend here at the Indiana Veterans' Home. We enjoyed music and worship together at Chapel Larry was well liked here. He could communicate more with his eyes and tone than many of the most eloquent people I've known. He is missed. May he rest in the peace of the Lord.

Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.
