Kathleen “Kathy” E. Mandabach Deckard, 74, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 24, 2017. She was born October 3, 1943 in Indianapolis to Thomas Mandabach, he survives and the late Dorothy Pens (Smith).
She was married to Robert “Bob” Deckard on October 7, 1961 in Indianapolis. He was the love of her life and he survives.
Kathy graduated from Beech Grove High School. After her children were raised, Kathy became “the best lunch lady on the planet” she worked as a kitchen manager at Wainwright Middle School for 30 years. A job she thoroughly enjoyed.
Kathy was a member of the Dayton Memorial Presbyterian Church and served as an ordained Elder and Deacon. Her faith was a very important part of her life and she was willing to serve in any capacity the church needed. Kathy was also involved in Sunday school, Mother’s Club, Girl Scouts and LOVED playing cards with her special friends in card club. Kathy was a beautiful soul inside and out. Her smile was infectious and she would do anything for you if she could. Kathy also enjoyed reading, travelling and the annual family vacation in Vanderbilt Beach FL.
Surviving along with her husband are their children, Cynthia Keough of Ft. Myers, FL, Suzanne Fogarty (Tim) of Ft. Myers, FL, and Bobby Deckard (Dr. Amy Jo) of Statesboro, GA. To say that Kathy loved and enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren would be an understatement, she is survived by her grandchildren; Ryan Keough (Katie), Alex Keough, Timmy Fogarty, Taylor Fogarty, Xavier Deckard, Olyana Deckard, and a great grandson Lucas Keough. Kathy is also survived by 2 sisters; Judy Hensley of Beech Grove, Deborah Reimers of New Orleans and 1 brother Steve Pens of Milpitas, CA.
She is preceded in death by her mother, granddaughter Beth Keough and a great granddaughter Daisy Keough. Aunt Mim Smith and Uncle Bob Smith in whose home she was raised.
Friends may call on Tuesday November 28, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. at Soller-Baker Funeral Home on Twyckenham Blvd. A service will be held on Wednesday November 29, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Dayton Memorial Presbyterian Church with a short visitation 1 hour prior. Rev. Dr. Justin Schlesinger-Devlin officiating. Soller-Baker Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
