Judith “Judy” P. Ruzicka, 81, of Lafayette went to be with the Lord at 10:45 pm, Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at her home, with her husband Thomas by her side.
She was born August 3, 1936 in Hammond to the late Paul and Irene (Petrie) Shields. She graduated from Hammond High School and Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Science and Mathematics. On September 17, 1960 she married the love of her life, Thomas Ruzicka in Hammond, he survives.
Judy worked as a teacher at Hammond Junior High School and also in the Math and Reading Education Department at University of Illinois. She also worked on the Read to Succeed campaign. However, her most important and cherished job was that of a mother and wife. Prior to moving to Lafayette, Judy and Thomas lived in Oak Lawn and Champaign, IL. Judy was a member of Covenant Church in Lafayette, Trinity Presbyterian Church in Oak Lawn, IL and First Presbyterian Church in Champaign, IL. She was a session member at the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the choir at First Presbyterian and Covenant.
Judy served as President of the P.E.O. Chapter EM in Lafayette, President of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Guild, and also served as Secretary of the Wabash Area Lifetime Learning Association (WALLA).
Along with her husband, she is survived by two children, a daughter, Mary Frances Ruzicka of West Lafayette, a son, Paul Ruzicka of Batavia, IL; and 2 grandchildren, Ines and Josef Ruzicka.
Memorial contributions in Judy’s name may be given to Covenant Church, 211 Knox Dr., West Lafayette, IN 47906. Envelopes will be available at the church.
