John Robert Mitchell, Jr., 58, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012. He was born November 17, 1954, to the late J. Robert and Marie Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda D. Mitchell. Bob is survived by his sister, Mary Ann (Charles) Charlton of Sarasota, FL, two stepdaughters, Elisha (David) Grigsby and Jenna Faulkner. He was “Poppo” to 6 grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary, Taylor, Jacob, McKenzie and Michaela. There are two nephews, Michael and Bob Charlton. Bob graduated from Berea High School in Berea, OH, and received a B.S. in Microbiology and a B.S. in Computer Science from Purdue University. He was employed for 35 years at Purdue as the department IT manager in Botany and Plant Pathology. He was highly respected by his colleagues. Being a faithful and beloved member of Christ Memorial Temple for 30 years, he served on the board of directors, Sunday school teacher, Webmaster and having a love for music, he enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was very creative, and participated in many of the church activities: Director of the Grief Share Program, involved in the Christian singles group, men's fellowship and especially looked forward to the annual men's fishing trip where he used his expert “culinary skills”. He was an outstanding chef. Bob will truly be missed. He was completely dedicated to his faith in God and was an example in word and deed. Special thanks to Hospice and all who gave outstanding medical care and support during his illness. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN, and the funeral service will be Thursday at 12:00 noon at Christ Memorial Temple, 3801 E. Union St. Lafayette, IN 47905. Bishop Raymond Parnell and Pastor Anthony Carson will officiate. Burial will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions in Bob's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Missions Department of Christ Memorial Temple.
