John R. McDonald, 72, of West Lafayette died Saturday, October 19, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born May 22, 1941, in Judyville, IN, to the late Harold McDonald and Margaret Gilbert Robertson. John graduated from Klondike High School and attended Purdue University. On June 30, 1962 he married Becky Hammel in Lafayette and she survives. John had been on the Purdue Police Department and worked as a Supervisor at TRW for many years. He was also a self employed contractor in the Lafayette area for the past 47 years. John was a member of Elston Presbyterian Church, and past Master of the Masonic Lodge 724 in West Lafayette, Past President of the High Twelve Club 99 and Past Worthy Patron of OES 507 in West Lafayette. He enjoyed fishing, Purdue sports, attending the Indianapolis 500 and antique car shows. Surviving along with his wife are his children Brenda L. McDonald of Lafayette, David R. McDonald (Lisa LeFante) of Apex, NC, Douglas H. McDonald (Judy) of Canton, MI, grandchildren Trevor and Megan Oaks, Kylie and Luke McDonald, Bryce and Brooke McDonald. Also surviving are brothers James D McDonald (Del) of West Point, Butch McDonald (Judy Peters) of Fickle and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Wednesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Masonic service will be 7:00 PM Wednesday. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Pastor Rick Ryan officiating. Burial will be at Sandridge Cemetery.
