John “Jack” Dailey, 83, of Lafayette, died Feb. 20, 2011, in his residence.
Born Feb. 10, 1928, to the late Stella and John P. Dailey Sr., he was a lifelong resident of Lafayette.
He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1946 and attended Purdue University.
After 41 years as an engineer and creating company safety cartoons, he retired from CSX Railroad.
He served as a tank commander during the Korean War, where he received the bronze star for his service and bravery. He was a volunteer probation officer for many years and also assisted with the lifeline program.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 11, Old Rails, and the 45 Thunderbird Club.
His hobbies were drawing cartoons, painting, gardening, and watching the world from his front porch. He enjoyed close friends and family who he loved very much.
Surviving is one brother, Jim Dailey (wife: Helen), of West Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and two sons: Shawn Barnes of Lafayette, and Mike Shaw (wife: Gretchen) of California.
Also surviving is Jack&s loyal and faithful companion, his golden retriever Luckie.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to till the memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd Lafayette, IN. 47909 with Sister Jane Anthrop officiating.
