Joan M. (Voss) Keiser, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 9, 2018, in Indiana University Health Hospital. Joan was born December 26, 1936, to Samuel and Becky Voss. She graduated from Klondike High School in 1955. She was married for nearly 62 years to Jake Keiser.
Early in their marriage, Joan worked for AAA Hoosier Motor Club. Upon starting their family, she became a homemaker. Joan loved serving her family in many ways, including taking care of (spoiling) her grandchildren and great grandchildren when the need arose. Joan was an avid reader and loved completing her daily crossword puzzle. As her grandchildren grew, they were known to “help” her in solving the puzzles.
Joan was an active member of Heartland Community Church, formerly First Reformed Church in Lafayette. She established the church library and served as the librarian for many years. She was involved in the women’s ministries of the church. She also spent several years as a volunteer for Home Hospital, working primarily in the critical care waiting room.
For more than 30 years, she and Jake have been “snow birds,” wintering in Okeechobee, Florida. During those years they established many friendships with fellow “snow birds” from various areas of the country. During the summer, they enjoyed traveling often including visits to or with the friends from Okeechobee.
In addition to her husband, Jake, she is survived by daughter Lorraine (Melvin) Brown, son Mark (Beth) Keiser, grandchildren Audrey (Kyle) Mills, Jay (Kelsey) Reeder, Fran (Brandon) Griswold, Kylee (Chad) Mills, Lindsey Keiser, Sean Keiser and Kaleb Brown, great grandchildren Jackson Mills, Madison Mills, Carson Mills, Zoey Mills, Patrick Griswold, Graham Mills, Gavin Mills, Henry Griswold and Harlan Reeder, a sister Evelyn Howell, sister in law Carolyn Voss and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three infant children Dale, Dean and Brenda, a sister Harriet Vanderkleed and a brother Robert (Bob) Voss.
For those interested, memorial contributions can be made in Joan’s honor to Heartland Community Church.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Heartland Community Church, 3900 E. 300 N, Lafayette. Service will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday at Heartland Community Church. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
