Jess E. Freels, 66, of West Lafayette, died at 9:10 PM Friday, December 17, 2010 at Clarian Arnett Hospital.
He was born May 19, 1944, in Frankfort, to Faye Abston Freels of Lafayette and the late Brother Freels.
His first marriage was to Betty Sheldon, they later divorced, then on 08/16/1987 he married Janet Leader Ping in Monticello and she survives.
Jess worked for Wells Painting for 37 years the last 27 of which he spent as head estimator and vice president. When that business closed he started Central Indiana Painting which he owned and operated for 11 years before retiring due to health in 1994.
He was a member of the Local #80 Painters and Decorators Union and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and spending time on the lake.
Surviving along with his wife and mother are 2 daughters Rebecca Cummings (husband Dale) and Teresa Gregory (husband Will) both of Lafayette, a son Jess Edward Freels Jr (wife Kelly) of Brentwood, TN, a step daughter Kristine Maier (husband Carl) of Lafayette and a step son Rodney Ping (wife Angie) of Mount Pleasant, SC.
Also surviving are 6 grandchildren – Emily and Matthew Reif, Austin, Justin and Madison Freels, and Sheldon Gregory and 3 step grandchildren – Mollie Ping, Austin and Jarrett Maier.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at 2:00 pm Monday, December 20, 2010 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd Lafayette, IN 47909 with Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating.
Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
