Jeannine Steelman, 76
Jeannine Roberta Steelman, 76, of Lafayette, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at her residence.
She was born May 26, 1933, in Oak Park, Ill., to the late Frank and Helen Frejlach Mazzarelle. She graduated from Riverside Brookfield High School.
On June 18, 1960, she married Maurice V. “Moe” Steelman in Glen Ellyn, Ill., and he survives.
She was catalogue manager for Montgomery Ward for several years before being a stay-at-home mother.
Mrs. Steelman enjoyed time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She painted for many years.
Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Thea Denton (husband: Jeremy), Maria Dexter (husband: Mike) and Marisa Steelman (companion: Rick Young), all of Lafayette; a son, Bill Steelman (wife: Lisa) of St. Augustine, Fla.; and a sister, Yvonne Gliesman (husband: Art) of Batavia, Ill.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Nick, Grant, Adam, Morgan, Jannica and Iris; and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Cade, Callie and Brayton.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. A private family service will also be at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Fr. Ambrose Ziegler officiating. I always enjoyed getting to visit with Jeannine when she came to the office. She was one of my favorite patients and I know Dad enjoyed her just as much. She was a lovely lady and she will be missed. I am sorry for your loss.

I was her waitress every week for years and yet... I can&t remember what she ordered. What I can remember is her smile and advice. Her smile was always a welcome relief from the chaos that was a Panini dinner service. She always had the best advice and comforting words no matter the situation (her advice on dieting and in-laws are recited in my home). Perhaps I wasn&t always a good waitress but with Jeannine, I knew I&d rather be a good friend. She will be dearly missed and I will treasure the pictures I have of her and my daughter, Georgia... perhaps some day I can tell Georgia a story about a small lady with a big heart that befriended a waitress.

My sincere condolences on Jeanine&s passing. I was always fond of the two of you. The closeness of your relationship showed when I saw the two of you together. How wonderful that your famiy is large and near.

Little Seth is now 25, a network engineer, and lives and works in Chicago. After healing from cancer I remarried and divorced, Delphi closed my dept in &04 due to budget cuts and I now work as a Consumer Credit Counselor in this cold, snowy place - but the people are wonderful and I&m dating a farmer!
