Jean (Kerkhoff) Slayton, 92, of Lafayette died December 7, 2016 at 4:00 pm at The Springs at Lafayette.

She was born October 27, 1924 in Lafayette to the late Frank and Josephine (Powell) Kerkhoff. She graduated from Montmorenci High School. Jean married the love of her life Russell Slayton on February 20, 1943 in Wolcott and were married for almost 74 years. He survives. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and was a homemaker and a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of the Ventura Delta Sigma Kappa Epsilon Chapter in Otterbein.

Jean enjoyed traveling and sports, especially Purdue Basketball. She enjoyed making bets with her great grandson on the games, and the majority of the time would always surprise him with the win. She also enjoyed quilting and she loved Christmas but above all she cherished the time spent with her family.

She is survived by her 3 children, Linda (Jim) Pendleton of Romney, Edward (Mary) Slayton of West Lafayette, Kenneth (Ginny) Slayton of Evans, GA; 5 grandchildren, Kevin (Rhonda) Pendleton, Deb (Bruce) Benedict-Graham, Jerame Slayton, Alicia (Peter) Osborn, Tiffany (Bill) Nole; and 9 great grandchildren.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, December 13 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd.

Funeral Service 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 14 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. TJ Jenney of Immanuel United Church of Christ officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Jean’s name to the American Cancer Society or the Immanuel United Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
