Lifetime Lafayette resident Janice (Jan) Lynn Heide 71 died suddenly at her home February 25, 2021.   She was born August 27, 1949, to Richard J. and Virginia L. (Wells) Heide.  She resided in the family home her entire life and was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Jan attended Jefferson High School and earned a GED.  She continued her education through online college courses and other distance learning.  She had a passion for lifelong learning and enjoyed a broad range of learning experiences especially, Indiana history, environmental issues, and ecology.  She loved all animals.  Although she was physically handicapped her entire life, she taught herself woodworking skills and designed and built many tables and devices to make her home more accessible.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard T. (Tom) Heide, John D. Heide, and Ronald J. (Joe) Heide.  Surviving is her sister, Dr. Jane H. Eberle of Kansas, and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was blessed to have the friendship of her longtime friends and mentors, Lynne Corrigan and Kat Braz.

At Jan’s request, there will be no funeral service.  She was cremated, and her ashes will be scattered at a later date.  Memorial gifts may be sent to Indiana United Cerebral Palsy Association, 627 Corporate Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46278.  Soller Baker Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
