Janice May Rubright, age 86, of Aster Place, joined her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 27, 2020. She was born on February 14, 1934 to the late Theodore and Cleone (Elsea) Dawson. Janice graduated from Jefferson High School in 1952. On March 27, 1953, Janice married the love of her life, John E. Rubright.
Janice, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother (Granny) loved her family and her Lord.
Along with her husband of 67 years Janice was blessed with 5 children, John Rubright Jr. (preceded in death), Jackie Mitton (Darrell) of Lafayette, Jeff Rubright (Mary Beth) of Wilmington NC, Julie Kensinger (Dave) of Battle Ground, and Jerry Rubright (Marlene) of Lafayette. Janice received more blessings that called her Grandma. Josh Hainje of Lafayette, Bradley Hainje (Monica) of Lafayette, Stephanie Graves (Seth) of West Point, Andy Kensinger (Katelyn) of Romney, Jake Steffes of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Joel Schwallier (Jenna) of Carmel, Geoff Mitton, Josh Mitton and Jessica Galloway. She also loved her many great grandchildren. Also, she was survived by brother Don Dawson (Joyce) Muncie.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Theodore (Bud) (Lois surviving) Dawson, Jeanette Rubright and Judy Keedy.
Janice was a member of Covenant Church in West Lafayette. She was a Girl Scout/Brownie leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of a Quilting Guild, and a Home Economics Club. She worked in different capacities at Wea, Wainwright and McCutcheon schools. Her dream came true with the opening of Sew N Sew N Stuff in Valley Plaza. Where, for 13 years, she and John helped create many beautiful projects with their customers. Janice also judged many needlework projects at local county fairs. They spent many winters enjoying the warm weather and many special friends in their Florida home in Buttonwood Bay. Janice was a beautiful quilter and shared her love for sewing by starting a quilting club in Florida and was chairman of the bocce committee for three years (when substantial improvements to the facilities were approved and implemented). She was active in the church of Buttonwood Bay, and served three years as communion chairperson.
Janice enjoyed gardening and playing cards with family and friends. She was a gifted, lifelong seamstress and created many beautiful quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, which will be treasured for years to come. Janice had a kind and giving spirit. She was generous with her time, attention, and loved creating many precious memories that will be forever cherished by those of us that loved her.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Saturday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., with a private service following visitation.
