James W. Kingma, 88, of West Lafayette, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at IU Arnett Hospital. He was born February 3, 1929, in Lafayette to the late John and Mary Brown Kingma. James attended Klondike High School and served in the National Guard for 11 years.
On April 15, 1950 he married Ethel Emrich in Lafayette and she survives. James worked in maintenance at the Purdue University Power Plant and is retired. He was a member of Battle Ground United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, playing music, musical intrument repair, fishing and wine making.
Surviving along with his wife are his children Sara (John) Currens of Albquerque, NM, Kellie Ann (Jim) Johnson of Las Cruces, NM, Rita (GL Boland) Kingma of Benson, AZ, Andrew (Paula) Kingma of West Lafayette, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers Robert (Jeannette) Kingma of Lafayette and Wayne Kingma of Battle Ground. James was preceded in death by 3 sisters Leonora Wiggins, Eileen Titus and Joann Irwin.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am on Thursday at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, Rev. Terry Brammer officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens
