James M. Smith Jr., 62, of Lafayette died Monday, April 18, 2016 at St. Elizabeth East surrounded by his family. He was born October 2, 1953, in Mesa, AZ, to the late James and Lois Lucas Smith. Jim graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1972 and served in the United States Airforce. On December 31, 1973 he married Cynthia L. Henderson in West Lafayette and she survives. Jim worked for Fairfield Manufacturing for 40 plus years and retired on August 31, 2015. He enjoyed going to casinos, jigsaw puzzles, NASCAR and was a Jeff Gordan fan. Jim loved going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with his family. He also attended Christ United Methodist Church. Surviving along with his wife are his sons AJ Smith, Brian Smith, grandchildren Michael A. Smith, Haylee B. Smith, great granddaughter Paige M. Smith, sisters Janice Selleck (Jim) and Kathy Cassell all of Lafayette. Also surving is his mother-in-law Shirley Henderson and father-in-law Jack (Gail) Henderson all of Lafayette. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service will be 9:30 am Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Rev. Scott Mann officiating.
