James F. Klaiber

James F. Klaiber, 76, of Shadeland, died at 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at his residence.
Born Dec. 1, 1933, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Carl and Gertrude Schroeder Klaiber.
He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1951 and attended Purdue University. He served in the Army from May 15, 1956 to April 18, 1958 in the 928th Engineer Aviation Group.
Mr. Klaiber was in advertising sales at the Journal & Courier for 31 years before retiring in 1991.
He was a life member of St. James Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 11. He enjoyed horses, breeding and selling dogs, and was an avid Purdue fan.
Surviving are a sister, Julia Ann Adams (husband: Ron) of Lafayette; and two brothers, Daniel C. Klaiber (wife: Patricia) of LaGrange, Ga., and Bob K. Klaiber (wife: Linda) of Rossville.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by a brother, John R. Klaiber; and a nephew, Robert S. Klaiber.
Visitation 1 hour prior to an 11:30 a.m. service Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909, with Pastor David French officiating. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to the Robert Scott Klaiber Foundation c/o St. James Lutheran Church, 800 Cincinnati St., Lafayette, IN 47904.

I worked with Jim at the J&C for a few years just prior to his retirement. Much of what I learned about advertising and treating customers right came from him. My thoughts and prayers and with your family and friends. Jim was one of a kind. He will be missed.
