James E. Houchens, 77, of Monrovia formerly Lafayette, passed away on Monday, March 9,2020 in his daughters home.
He was born November 19, 1942, in Barren County, Kentucky, to the late James M. and Dorothey L. Davis Houchens.
James was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1963-1965.
He worked over twenty years at Schwab Safe Corp here in Lafayette as a Laborer for Lafayette Venetian Blind then he retired.
James enjoyed working on old cars, motorcycles and anything with an engine, he could fix anything, a man who didn’t know a stranger. His time with his family and friends were very important to him.
He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Surviving are daughter, Cathy J. (Joe) Bond of Monrovia, son, Brandon (Amanda) Houchens of Lafayette, daughter, B. Jeannie Cheshier of Americus, brothers, Bill Houchens of Arkansas, Jerry (Becky) Houchens, Charlie Houchens all of Lafayette, sister, Judy (Dick) Clawson of Lafayette. Grandchildren are Chad, Todd, Tyler, Joey, Kodi, Kyle, Meghan, Alexus, Brendyn, Brandyn, and four great grandchildren Malaki, Evelyn, Jensen, Jaxen.
James was preceded in death by parents and an infant sister Virginia Houchens.
Visitation Wednesday March 18, 2020 from 10:00am -11:00am with service to follow at 11:00am, Soller- Baker Funeral Home Wednesday 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, Pastor Terry Chase officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens West Lafayette, with military honors.
