Jorden “J.W.” “Jim” W. Burke, 75, of Lafayette died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012, in his residence.
He was born November 30, 1936, in Bancely, Ga., to the late Kermit T. Burke Sr. and Esther Richardson.
He served in the Army Reserve from 1950 to 1953.
On February 14, 1987, he married Maria “Nina” Barron, and she survives.
Mr. Burke joined Local 121 Operative Plasters and Cement Masons in 1954, and in June of 1992 the union became Local 692.
He was a member of Brady Lane Church of Christ. Mr. Burke bowled in many leagues early in his life at Star Lanes here in Lafayette. He most enjoyed the time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Maria “Nina” Burke of Lafayette; five daughters, Roxann Arnott of Syracuse, Ind., Cheryl Minnick of Warsaw, Marsha Robertson (husband: Bill) of Warsaw, Vicki Zygas (husband: Joseph) of Lafayette and Deya Barron of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a son, Marc Barron of Australia; a brother, Kermit “Bo” Burke (wife: Vida) of Waycross, Ga.; a sister, Betty Murphy (husband: Hilton) of Waycross; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jack and Neal Burke; and 2 sisters, Frankie Parr and Pearl Crawford.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Rev. J. William Overbay officiating. Burial will be at Meadow View Cemetery.
