Hazel Marie Stone, 74, of Lafayette, passed away at home on Sunday, May 22, 2016 after a short battle with cancer.
Hazel was born on November 28, 1941, in Humboldt, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Max Munson and Maude Young Pierson. She was raised in Freeland Park, Indiana and graduated from Freeland Park High. Hazel was a stay at home mother and homemaker, and also worked in retail, food service, and house cleaning.
On November 5, 1961, Hazel married Donald L. Stone, and he survives along with their daughter, Nisha Pierce and two granddaughters Alexa and Makayla Pierce of Lafayette. She is also survived by five sisters, Marge Wise of Lafayette, Maxine Wallpe of Lafayette, Ada Swanson of Dayton, Margaret Scherer of Oxford, and Marsha Bowman of Fowler; and brother Ed Munson of Fowler.
Hazel was a tireless worker and never knew a stranger. She always put others first and caring for others was something that just came natural for her. She enjoyed bowling, music, dancing, yard work, and garage sales. Above all she loved spending time with her daughter and two granddaughters while shopping and going out to eat. She looked forward to the Covered Bridge Festival every fall and her favorite place to vacation was Siesta Key Beach, Florida.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 1pm-4pm at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Memorial donations can be made in Hazel’s name to the American Cancer Society.
