Harry R. Bowerman, 97, of Lafayette, died at 2:18 AM Saturday, October 22, 2011, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born July 4, 1914, in Lafayette, to the late Harry H. and Laura Rutherford Bowerman.
He served in the United States Army as a First Sergeant during WWII receiving the Bronze Star.
He graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1932.
On August 6, 1947, he married Marguerite Oilar in Lafayette. She died February 21, 1987.
Harry was a retired farmer and had worked over 30 years as a superintendent at Peerless wire before retiring in 1974.
He enjoyed watching college sports, wrestling, fishing, and riding his four wheeler.
Harry loved his livestock and farm, which he resided on for the past 60 years, and took great pride in taking care of his property up until recently when he became ill.
Surviving are a daughter Mary McIntyre (husband Roger) of Lafayette, a son Charles E. Bowerman (wife Karan) of Lafayette, a son-in-law Edward L. Kenedy (wife Mickey) of Lafayette, six grandchildren, Richard “Dick” Bowerman (wife Tracy), Craig Bowerman, Mark Rausch, Tracy Rausch, Ryan Kennedy (wife Sarah), Kristin Weis (husband Ryan), and four great-grandchildren Tyler, Ashley, Tucker and Harley Bowerman.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Madonna C. Kennedy on September 30, 2004, a son-in-law James Rausch on March 17, 2002, a sister and a brother.
Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 24, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909, with Rev. Mark Berg officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Stockwell United Methodist Church Building Fund at 6941 Church St., Stockwell, IN 47983.
