Harold Robert Demerly, 86, of Lafayette, passed away March 27,2020. He was the youngest of 8 Children, born and raised of Catholic faith on October 26, 1933, on the Demerly Family Farm in WhiteCounty, Round Grove Township, in Monticello, IN. He was the son of the late John Barnard Demerly and Margaret Mary Alberts-Demerly. On June 11, 1955, he married Patricia Ann Hart. They have 2 daughters, Pamela (Pam) Windler, (late Douglas Windler), Rebecca (Becky) Robledo,(Elmo Paul) ). Surviving grandchildren, Adam Windler, (Erin), Tyler Robledo, (Ashley), Wes Robledo, (Escarlet Villeda), and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a Helen Rooze.

Harold served in the National Guard. He retired from the Lafayette Fire Dept. after 20 years and then went to work in the carpenter shop at Purdue University for another 20 years.

Harold loved spending time with his family. He loved basketball of all levels and especially enjoyed seeing the Purdue Boilermakers in action. He looked forward to family gatherings and was so proud of all of his nieces and nephews. Harold enjoyed dancing, bowling, buying scratch off tickets and seeing friends at the local clubs, and was a member of Navy Club Ship 12, 40-8 Veterans Club, American LegionPost 11, & Fraternal Order of Eagles. Harold had set breakfast & dinner dates with his favorite niece Carol White and favorite nephew Jack McNaughton, who will always have a special place in his daughter’s hearts. Most of all, Harold was a family man, loved being called Honey, Dad,Grampie, Grandpa and Papa Great. Enjoy the heavenly dance floor with your wife, Pat, your favorite dance partner and eat as many peanut MM’s, as you want.

Preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann, son in law, Douglas Windler, brothers, Bernard Anthony Demerly, Ed Demerly, Frances (Bud) Demerly, Ben Demerly, sisters, Viola McNaughton, and Rose Mary Schaible. My condolences to Harold's family. Harold and I worked together at the Purdue carpenter shop with a friend,Mr. Stan Memmer. We shared a Catholic background and enjoyed stories and jokes. Both Harold and Stanley had a special connection to Boilermaker basketball. Every time I met him after retirement he had a great story and smile.

Harold was always so warm and funny. We shared many laughs and enjoyed our times with him watching ball games. He even graciously let us sit with him even though we were IU fans. Uncle Harold will be one of our fondest memories. I am so sorry for the circumstances. We pray for comfort and peace for his loved ones and send our deepest sympathies. May he rest in peace.

Becky, Elmo, Pam and families, What a wonderful man your dad was! We will enjoy many memories of his "young at heart personality". From parties, bowling, enjoying his company in so many ways. Always dressed to the nines, and smelled like a million dollars!! He loved a good laugh!! A good man, a giving man - he did so much volunteer work along with Elmo and Tyler at the Red Cross for which we were forever grateful. May he Rest in Peace and find eternal love with your mom. So sorry to hear of Harold's passing. Enjoyed his company at the Navy Club Ship#12. Cecil enjoyed bowling with Harold at the Navy Club #12. He was such a sweet guy.

Dear Pam, Becky, Carol and Family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed hanging out with Uncle Harold when he would come with Carol to visit Clif and Lisa here in Holland. He was always so fun to spend time with. Truly one of the good guys for sure and certainly everything Carol and Clif said he was. Dear Pam and Becky, so sorry for the loss of your father, he always had a smile on his face, and always talked about you girls and how proud he was of both of you. And he sure love all his grandkids! When I was younger I remember the parties he would have in the basement with you girls and friends, I got to go to some of those, because I was his godchild. I remember helping Aunt Pat with those parties along with you girls. He will be missed, but I know he is happy with the Lord, and Aunt Pat, and they both are looking down on all of you with much pride.❤️?

I’ve always had respect for and enjoyed breakfast or front porch conversations with Harold while working for Robledo and Sons. He was always such a well spoken man and dressed with the times. I will always remember him watching us cut his yard from his front door while wearing nothing but his Nike basketball shorts and his gold necklace. Rest in peace and rock those Nikes in Heaven!

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Our memory of Harold is that he was a welcoming and warm man who was gracious to our family as an extension of his own, through the Windler family. Words cannot express our sorrow for the family at this tenuous time in American history. Our thanks to Harold for his service to our country as a serviceman and public servant. Godspeed Mr. Demerly. This really sucks! The way this all came about and the way it has to be handled. We need to be able to share the love in person and we can’t. It’s heartbreaking!
