Gretchen K. Kizer, 81, of West Lafayette died peacefully, Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 10:08 pm after a long and courageous battle against COPD.
Gretchen was born May 12, 1936 in Indianapolis to the late Hiram D. and Genevieve (Burger) Keehn. She graduated from Shortridge High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Indiana University. She married the love of her life Noble E. Kizer on August 10, 1958 in the beautiful Sweeny Chapel at Butler University. Over the years, Gretchen worked many retail jobs but her greatest work was as a homemaker taking care of and raising her beloved family.
Gretchen was a member of Stidham United Methodist Church, Kappa Alpha Theta and the Tourist Club. She was an avid gardener with plants and flowers thriving both indoors and out. She also enjoyed cooking, quilting, and crafts. She was an accomplished pianist and artist. She spent many summers as a young artist at the Chautauqua in Fountain Park, Remington, IN. Gretchen also loved to travel, read and complete jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Along with her husband Noble, she is survived by her 2 daughters, Jennifer (Thomas) Linnane of Fox Island, WA and Lisa (Keith) MacDonald of West Lafayette; Grandchildren, Tom (Jenell) Linnane, Dan (Carissa) Linnane, Betsy Linnane; Sammi and Maddie MacDonald; Great-grandson, Jamie; a sister, Linda Bolton; Cousins, Dan (Sarah) Beard and her nieces and nephews, Karen Croussore, Kathy Gregory, Karl Keehn, Kris Kizer, Elizabeth McLaughlin, Kimberly Pavlock, Saralyn Sherwood and Amy Vachris.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Eric Kizer, and brother Peter Keehn.
Memorial contributions in Gretchen’s name may be given to Stidham United Methodist Church or The American Lung Association.
Family and friends will gather at 10:00 am until time of memorial service at 11:00 am, Friday, November 3, 2017 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd with Rev. Dave Inskeep officiating.
A private inurnment will follow Saturday at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
