Gordon G. Cornell, 93, of Lafayette passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Heritage Health Care. He was born July 9, 1921, in Lafayette to the late James and Hazel Gibson Cornell. Gordon graduated from Dayton High School and served in the Army Air Corps in WWII. On November 14, 1948 he married Betty Simms in Dayton and she survives. Gordon had worked at Ross Gear for 20 years and owned and operated Cornell and Son's AMOCO for 25 years. Gordon drove a school bus for 20 years for the Tippecanoe County School Corporation and and also farmed. He then owned the Clarks Hill Fish and Steak House for several years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion in Colfax and enjoyed playing euchre, bingo, mowing his lawn and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving along with his wife are his children Carolyn Lantz of Sheridan, Phillip Cornell (Kay) of Lafayette, Randy Cornell (Rita) of Mulberry, Marty Cornell (Carol) of Lafayette, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Also survivng is his brother Lorin Cornell of Lafayette. Gordon was preceded in death by 2 sisters. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Pastor Dan Helms officiating. Interment will be at Yorktown Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute in Gordon's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
