Gladys Marie Van Hook Haxton
Gladys Haxton, longtime area resident, died in Alameda, CA, on Saturday, September 22, 2018. She was born March 20, 1927, on the family farm, daughter of the late Clyde and Imogene Pell Van Hook. Mrs. Haxton graduated from Richland Township High School. She married Dale Haxton, of Mellott, in 1946. They resided in the rural Lafayette area. She was a homemaker, prior to working at L.S. Ayres, Market Square. In later years, Mrs. Haxton resided at Rosewalk Commons, in Lafayette. While living there, she became an avid reader, and was particularly fond of works by the Bronte Sisters. She enjoyed activities with her neighbors, particularly having conversations with friends, while sitting in the gazebo on site. A farm girl at heart, Mrs. Haxton loved animals, and always had cats as pets.
Mrs. Haxton was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her son, Thomas Alan; and, six younger siblings: Benny Wayne, Phyllis, Warren, Bill, Donna, and Connie.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Meeajane (husband: Yaakin) of Alameda, CA; a son: Timothy (wife: Jeanette) of San Francisco, CA; a grandson: Justin (wife: Tracy) of Roseville, CA; and, a great-granddaughter: Noelle) of Roseville, CA.
A memorial service will be held at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, on Saturday, October 13th, 2018, at 1 P.M.
