Gertrude M. Fehr, 96, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at St. Anthony Health Care.
She was born August 26, 1928, in Vienna, Austria, to the late Josef and Hermine (Glas) Fehr.
Gertrude lived a full, complex life. Her early life in Austria took place during WWII. She was able to go to school and received her Associate’s Degree in Business and English Translation from Vienna College. Gertrude met her former husband a US serviceman and moved to the United States.
Amongst other jobs she’s had through the years, Gertrude worked the longest as an administrative assistant for School of Nursing at Purdue University for 15 years before retiring in 1994.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church as well as a former member of the Lafayette Ski Club, Volks Club, Senior Citizens Center, and the Purdue Retiree Club.
Gertrude was very active and enjoyed participating in aerobics and line dancing. An avid skier (both downhill and cross-country) she won several skiing awards. She also enjoyed playing golf, traveling and walking/hiking. Other activities she enjoyed and excelled at were ice skating, tennis, and playing piano. She was an animal lover and especially loved miniature Schnauzers. Gertrude was very involved in church, frequently volunteering and attended bible study classes.
Surviving are two sons, David G. (Karen) Snuffer of Shelbyville, IN, and Avery D. (Melva) Snuffer of Pahrump, NV, a daughter, Teresa Snuffer of Kenosha, WI, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909 with Rev. Jennifer Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN.
