Gary L. Hilt

September 17, 1947 - November 13, 2019

Gary L. Hilt, 72, of Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at his home. He was born September 17, 1947, in Terre Haute to the late Kenneth and Charlotte Hilt.
Gary was a veteran of the Marines and served in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969. On July 11, 2007, he married Arlene Sparks in Lafayette and she survives. Gary worked for the US Postal Service for over 30 years and retired in 2001. He was a musician and preformed locally. Gary was a gun enthuisiast and was a Black Belt in Akido.
Surviving along with his wife is his daughter Angela L. (Bradley) Perdue of Lafayette, stepdaughters Ara Shannon D. Sparks of Indianapolis, Alicia D. Sparks of Lafayette and Serena R. Phillips of Indianapolis, grandchildren Chelsea, Erica, Carrie Mae, Mason, great grandchildren Alexis and Bryson. Also surviving is his brother Steven (Lori) Hilt of Brookston. Gary was preceded in death by a brother Eugene Hilt. Private memorial service at a later date.

To Lennie and all of the family. I am praying for you all in your time of grief. I first met Gary almost 30 years ago at a TFT bible conference. I have greatly enjoyed our friendship over the years and loved catching up with him at the conferences. I was and continue to be blessed by his writings and poems. He will be greatly missed by many, but I look forward to reuniting with him again when Christ appears! May God bless you all.

My dear brother, Gary. You are dearly missed, by your son, Jason. I love you Pops. You said in an email that you hope I didn't mind that you thought of me as a son. I said it then, and I'll say it again....no way! makes me happy! I love you brother. At the darkest moment in my life...at my absolute weakest point...when I was in need of a brother in Christ to help me up - the Lord put you into my life in a very special way. I've never had a closer friend, than you. I could share my life (all the joys and all the sorrows) with you, and you could relate. I will miss all of our phone conversations and email exchanges and am especially thankful for all of your poetry and devotionals you sent out. I'm so thankful the Lord chose to work through you, to work on me. I miss you brother and my life will NEVER be the same, because of you. I look forward to the day, when we are re-united - far above all heavens, in The Heavenly Places. What an amazing day that will be. Rest in Him, until he appears. Love, Jason (&Jaclyn and family).
