Evelyn Lucille Moody Plumlee, West Lafayette, age 92, passed away peacefully at home August 1, 2018. She was born November 19, 1925 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late James Randall and Clara Moody. On December 24, 1949, she married Millard Percy Plumlee, Jr., Ph.D., in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 2013 after 63 years of marriage. She graduated from Karns High School, Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1944 and worked as a control panel monitor at the Y-12 electromagnetic separation process plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee during World War II. She also attended Purdue University. Evelyn’s lifelong focus was her family and relationship with the Lord. She enjoyed worship, bible study, antique collecting, cooking, travel, watching basketball and giving generously to others. She also believed strongly in the power of prayer. Surviving is her sister, Wanda L. Moody, Knoxville, Tennessee and five children; Joan Ashe (husband Victor), Knoxville, Tennessee, Mary Kersten (husband Doug), Angola, Indiana, Martha Nealon (husband Tom), St. Augustine, Florida, Claude Plumlee, Carmel, Indiana, and M.P. “Perky” Plumlee (wife Leslie) Winona Lake, Indiana. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren whom she thought hung in the moon; J. Victor Ashe and Martha Ashe, Dr. Andrew Kersten (wife Casey), Sara Kersten Parrish, Ph.D. (husband Ryan), Tommy Nealon, Claude “Beau” Plumlee, Lily Plumlee, Miles Plumlee, Mason Plumlee, Marshall Plumlee and Madeline Plumlee as well as great-grandchildren, Bennett, Brooks and Wesley Kersten. She was preceded in death by a son, James Plumlee. Evelyn loved seeing nature unfold, bird watching and time on the porch with her dog, Duke. Denise Long was a loving care giver and friend in the final years of her life. The support from Visiting Angels and IU Health Hospice was also greatly appreciated. Funeral services will be held at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, West Lafayette Chapel on August 4, 2018, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service, Rev. Ted Brust officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Purdue Foundation for the Baltzell Endowed Scholarship Fund honoring Millard P. Plumlee.
