Eugene L. Smith, 73
Eugene L. “Gene” Smith, 73, of West Lafayette, died at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2010, at St. Elizabeth East.
Born Sept. 6, 1936, in Florence, Ala., he was the son of the late Claude and Bama Tidwell Smith. He graduated from Norwood High School in Cincinnati, and served in the Marines.
On July 8, 1957, he married Lorraine Williams in Lafayette, and she survives.
Mr. Smith was a structural iron worker with Iron Workers Local 22. He also ownedoperated Smitty?s Electrical & Refrigeration Service.
He enjoyed fishing, fixing things, and especially his dogs.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Laura Amburgey of Lafayette; and two sons, Michael Smith of Darlington and Kyle Smith of Crawfordsville.
Also surviving are 2 grandsons, Christopher E. Smith of Darlington and Brian Amburgey of Lafayette; and a daughter-in-law, Andrea Smith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Pratt.
Visitation 10-11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette. Service 11 a.m. Thursday at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, the Rev. Clayton Kendall officiating. Interment at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Those wishing may contribute to the charity of choice.
