Eugene “Gene” Hanus, 83, of University Place, West Lafayette, Indiana, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 7, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born on May 26, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois. He met his future spouse and lifelong love in seventh grade. Gene and Nancy were married for 63 years, living in several states before calling Indiana home.
Gene had a long and storied working career starting at an early age. He used his Bachelor of Business degree for more than 30 years in manufacturing and sales management including 18 years as founder and president of R & R Plastics, Inc. that served the medical and automotive industries. Upon formal retirement, he continued his working career for another 15 years as an Instructor with the Purdue University (MEP) Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
Gene had many interests and hobbies. He was a Paul Harris Fellow Rotarian, he once served as a City Councilman and served in various church positions wherever he lived. Most recently as a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Lafayette, he enjoyed singing bass in the church choir. He belonged to the Lafayette Woodworkers, played golf with the Eagles Golf League, and was a longtime member of the Friday morning Downtowners Bible Study.
Along with his wife, Nancy, he is survived by his daughters, Susan (John) Holladay of West Lafayette, and Karyn Aubertot of Toulouse, France, grandchildren Aiden Holladay and Ryan Aubertot.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until a Celebration of Life and Gene’s Unwavering Faith at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway W., West Lafayette, IN 47909 with Pastor Jim Barton officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in remembrance of Gene may be made to Purdue Institute for Cancer Research, Hansen Life Sciences Research Building Room 141, 201 S. University St. West Lafayette, IN 47907 or St. James Lutheran Church Choir Fund.
