Eugene Dale Mitchell, 84, of Lafayette, passed away peacefully at 10:30 am Sunday, September 22, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson's. He was born February 14, 1929, in Lafayette, to the late Joseph and Hazel Tyrie Mitchell. He graduated Lafayette Jefferson High School. On June 25, 1949 he married Margaret Ford in Lafayette and she survives. Gene worked for Landis Gyr for 40 years before retiring; then worked part-time at Trio Engraving and REA Delivery. He enjoyed bowling, working in his yard, playing with his beloved dogs and was an avid golfer. Surviving along with his wife are four daughters; Jacqueline J. Mitchell, Joni C. Cutter, Jane A. DeVoss all of Lafayette, Julie M. West of Indianapolis; a son James P. Mitchell (wife Lisa) of Englewood, OH; a sister Beverly Jean Peterson of Lafayette; 14 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by a brother Norman Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, with Rosary at 7:00, Wednesday, September 25 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowview Cemetery.
