Ellen Holzgrefe, 72, of Lafayette, IN, died at 4:50 PM Saturday November 12, 2011 at St. Elizabeth East.
She was born August 19, 1939, in Winston-Salem, NC, the late Karl and Jo Vickers.
She graduated from Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, NC and attended the Woman&s College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro
On January 12, 1974 she married Fritz Holzgrefe in Winston-Salem, NC
Ellen was a member of St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and sewing.
Surviving along with the husband is a son
Fritz Holzgrefe III, with his wife, Mary Jo and their two children Megan and Fritz Holgrefe IV , all living in Georgia
Also a daughter, Regis Watson , with her husband James Watson Jr. , and their three children James III, Margaret, and Ann all living in Illinois.
And a brother, Jon Vickers and his wife Deanna, of Winston-Salem, NC

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Thursday November 17, 2011 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with a Scripture service starting at 4:45pm
A mass of Christian burial will beat 10:30 AM Friday at St. Mary Cathedral
Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating.
Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery

I read Ellen&s obit in the Winston paper today. My condolences to you and your family. Even though we have not been in touch for years, I still have good memories. I lost my wife 10 years ago,and I have been through your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you get through these difficult days. Hugh.

Fritz, I was so sorry to hear of Ellen&s passing. My neighbor from Lafayette called me this evening with the news. It brings back all the memories of you, Ellen, Bruce, me and Tina and Randy. Oh, how times have changed, huh? I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a spouse is a difficult and sorrowful experience that I wish would not have happened to either one of us. Although we had not met Ellen I personally had a long conversation with her one evening when I called to speak with you as you were returning from the funeral of a close friend. She was very personable and I felt I was talking to a long time friend. You were so lucky to have such a wonderful person to spend so many years of your life. We wish you the best and hope that you remember the many good times that you and Ellen had together. The Lord has placed her in a safe place with with no pain and with the love of the Lord at her side.

We both have shared the loss of loved ones and I pray GOD will hold you in the Palms of his hands keeping you always in his care giuiding, you along the way. during this time of sadness. I knoiw Ellen is in Heaven, God is holding here there in peace and free from all suffering. During Mass we celebrate the resurection of Christ We now celebrate the Resurection of Ellen into Heaven.
