Elizabeth J. “Betty” Laws, 88, of Brownsburg, formerly of Lafayette, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Brownsburg Meadows in Brownsburg.
Born Feb. 16, 1923, in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late Walter M. and Helen M. Kahl Lahrman.
She graduated from St. Francis High School, St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and St. Francis College.
On Nov. 9, 1944, she married Kenneth F. Laws, MD, in Notre Dame. He died July 4, 1996.
Mrs. Laws was an RN at Home Hospital prior to becoming director of the Practical Nursing Program at Ivy Tech before retiring in June 1976.
She enjoyed cooking, winning two state championships.
She was a member of St. Malchey Catholic Church in Brownsburg, Secular Franciscan Order, St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Elizabeth School of Nursing Alumni, Society of Indiana Pioneers, and Brown Township Homemakers Association. She volunteered at the adult reading academy in Indianapolis.
Surviving are four daughters, Katherine Kelly of Brownsburg, Margaret Carson (husband: Dana) of Romney, Patrice M. Murer (husband: Brian) of Williamsburg, Va., and Theresa A. Hayes (husband: Michael) of West Lafayette; and two sons, Michael Laws (wife: Julia) of Charleston, S.C., and Thomas J. Laws (wife: Denise) of Lafayette.
Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister Dolores M. Lahrman.
Rosary service at 4:30 p.m. with visitation following from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, Ind., 47909. Funeral mass at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at St. Boniface Church, 318 N. 9th St., Lafayette, Ind., 47905 with Fr. Jeff Martin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery.

Dear Mike and family,
You have my sympathies on your Mom&s passing. She was such a nice lady and always seemed to be in a happy mood.
I had never had Lasagna before having your Mom&s. I don&t eat it often, but when I do I still think of your Mom&s delicious Lasagna.

My condolences to the family of Betty Laws. I lived in Indianapolis from 1979-1994. I often saw Dr. and Mrs. Laws attending Mass at Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral on Saturday evenings. (I lived in the Winter House Apts. next door.) I was a classmate of Mike and Terri at CCHS. May her soul and all the souls of the Faithful Departed rest in peace. Sincerely, Alice R. Anderson

I am so sorry about the loss of your mother. It is never easy to let them go, no matter what the circumstances may be. Having just lost my husband on November 30th, I know how tough it is to lose someone you love. I will be thinking of you and praying that God will hold you and your family in the palm of His hand.
