Elizabeth N. “Betty” Jones, 94, a resident of West Lafayette since 1942, died peacefully at 3:14 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2012, at Westminster Health Care.
She was born February 28, 1917, in Lima, OH, to the late Martin C. and Elizabeth Papenfus Nellis.
She received her BA from Miami of Ohio in 1939 in Education.
On June 21, 1941, she married Lucien Jones in Lima, Ohio. He died July 12, 1975.
Elizabeth was a professional Reference Librarian at Purdue University for over 30 years before retiring at the age of 84 in 2002. Her work kept her active and healthy beyond her years, often walking home after a day?s work.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was very active in P.E.O. and social bridge clubs and enjoyed gardening, knitting and will be remembered for being a classy, elegant and kind women.
Surviving is a son, Tom Jones (wife: Paulette) of Chatham, MA; five grandchildren, John, Janice, Joyce, Nathan and Lauren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Gordon Lucien and Robert Jones; a daughter, Linda Jones; two brothers, Jim and Tom Nellis; and three sisters, Dorothy Penteburg, Kathryn Nellis and Joan Reams.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel with funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway W., West Lafayette, IN 47906, with Rev. Daniel J. Berger officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
