Eleanor S Barth, 82, of Lafayette, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2018 at IU Arnett Health in Lafayette.
She was born July 12, 1935 in Gary to the late P.H. and Ermina (Booth) Shoemake.
Her marriage was to John P. Barth and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by sons, James (Mary) Barth of Demotte and Reginald (Jane) Barth of Kokomo, daughters, Holly M. Barth of Lafayette and Heather (Joseph) Snow of Wheatfield. Grandchildren, Stephanie (Mark) Svetich, Tiffany Rosser, Jim (Kristen) Barth, Jacqueline (Mike) Davis, Crystal Barth, Theodore Barth, Valerie (Matt) Ward, Ashley (Zach) Barber, Ginger Snow, Rebecca Snow and Gwendolyn Snow. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Grace and Andrew Rosser, Ava and Danielle Svetich, Scarlett Davis, Alyssa Barber, Camden and Carson Ward, Ryan, Owen, and Isabel Barth and Theseus Lane.
Eleanor was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Lafayette. Formerly an active member with husband, John of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Highland. Eleanor worked as a credit manager for Tonn and Blank before assuming the role of full-time mother and homemaker.
As a child, with her mother, Eleanor rolled bandages with the War Mothers of Gary, which inspired her to attend nurses training. During her children’s school years, she was active in the PTA, Mom’s club, and attended many athletic events for her sons. Earlier a member and officer in Beta Sigma Phi sorority and Welcome Wagon. She was also an honorary member of the National Historic Society. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, collecting coins, listening to music, and keeping up with family and friends.
Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd Lafayette, IN 47909. A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3610 S. 18th St Lafayette, In 47909 with Pastor Stephanie Hanslow officiating. Entombment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
