Dorothy Marie Wheeler Sebrey—affectionately known by all as Dottie—passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on Thursday, November 17th after a brief illness.
Dottie was born September 15th 1938 to Robert and Margaret Wheeler in Akron, Ohio. She was the youngest of four children–brothers Bob and Don, and sister Peggy. They as well as her parents preceded her in death. She graduated from Our Lady of the Elms high school in 1956, then went to nursing school and graduated from Our Lady of Mercy with an LPN degree.
She is survived by Joseph Sebrey whom she married in May of 1959. They have two children Don (wife Chenda) and Terri (husband Dan). She had four grandsons that were the lights of her life: Isaac, Henry, Peter and Virak.
Dottie worked for over forty years as a family practice nurse and touched many lives. Her door was never closed to those in need and she was always there to lend a shoulder or an ear. She did not love to cook, but she did love to eat and so she smartly married a man who knew his way around the kitchen. She loved mashed potatoes beyond all reason, and she loved Joe's Thanksgiving dinner so much that she'd start talking about it in July. She had a terrific sense of humor and so was patient when her children added Smurfs to her nativity scene each year.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Cathedral at noon on Saturday, November 26th, with visitation two hours prior to Mass in the gathering space.
