Dorothy E. “Dottie” Nelson, age 80 of Lafayette died at 4:36 a.m. Monday, February 6, at Arnett Hospital. She was born February 18, 1931, in Lafayette. She was the daughter of the late Charles Kaiser and Ishula Barton Kaiser. She graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1948 and was a cheerleader for the 1948 State Basketball Champions. She was a member of the Hall of Fame of the Lafayette Women's Bowling Association as a Star of Yesterday, member emeritus of the same, and a permanent member of the Women's International Bowling Congress.
She was an avid Purdue fan of Women's Basketball and a member of the John Purdue Club. Dottie loved to read and knit dishcloths for friends and family. She enjoyed many fishing vacations to Minnesota, cruises to Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean with the St. Ann's Traveling Group.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother Jack, sister Charlotte Borton and her faithful companion shih-tzu, Tammy. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Melvin “Nellie” Nelson. Daughters Peggy Richardson, Debra Cox (husband Jerry) both of Lafayette, Jani Dunham (husband Brian) of Lawrenceburg, IN. Sons Stephen (wife Kathy) of Ft. Branch, IN and Larry of Lafayette. Also 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Rosary at 4:30 PM. Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann Catholic Church, Father Dominic Young officiating. Interment at St. Boniface Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Ann Soup Kitchen or American Cancer Society.
