Donald “Don” Klein, 74, passed away peacefully on Nov. 2, 2020 at IU Hospital, Lafayette, IN.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery with a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Lord’s Storehouse Food Pantry, PO Box 229, La Place, IL 61936.
Don was born on February 6, 1942 in Gary, IN, the son of Jerome and Rita (Backe) Klein. Don proudly served his country in the Air Force for 13 years. Don married Sandra Dion on June 22, 1968, and they had 3 beautiful children. Upon returning from the Air Force, Don worked for the Department of the Defense. Don received his Bachelor of Science in Technology of Management in Computer Systems Applications from The American University May 13, 1979. Don was an umpire for the Southern Maryland Youth Organization for many years, and loved umpiring his son’s baseball games. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a member of and held offices in the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion at various places he lived. He frequently visited the American Legion, and loved visiting with everyone.
Don enjoyed polka music, playing cards with friends, bowling, golf, and M*A*S*H. He was an avid Chicago White Sox Fan. Don’s most treasured time was spent with his grandkids.
Don is survived by son Randal Jerome and wife Rachel of Indianapolis, IN, daughter Amy and husband Jr. Throneburg of Cerro Gordo, IL and daughter Amanda of Denver, CO. His wonderful grandchildren Kinsley Rita-Jean of Indianapolis, IN, and Seth, Serena and Savannah Throneburg of Cerro Gordo, IL.
Don was preceded in death by his parents.
