Deidra Sue Sarault-Sarjent, 78, of Lafayette passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at Franciscan Health St. Elizabeth East.
She was born on June 3, 1939 in Lafayette to the late Norman “Swede” and Cora (Clark) Simison. She was a 1957 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing where she worked following graduation. She retired as the Occupational Nurse and EAP Representative at ALCOA, a job she truly loved. She married James Sarjent at St. Ann Catholic Church in Lafayette on October 7, 2000. He survives.
Deidra was a very open and personable person and enjoyed volunteering at St. Elizabeth Hospital and visiting residents of local nursing homes. She also enjoyed doing crafts and attending her Thursday knitting group where they made hats for the hospital. Above all, Deidra cherished time spent with her family and friends.
Along with her husband Jim, she is survived by her two children, Jeff (Shelley) Sarault of Lafayette, Kelly (Mike) Sarault-Durnell of Ft. Wayne; 3 step-children, Todd Sarjent, Traci Sarjent, and Tami (Chad) Allen all of Lafayette; and 7 grandchildren, Dustin, Dru, Derek, Jake, Blake, Zach, and Conner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Sandra A. Moll; and her first husband, William A. Sarault.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations in Deidra’s name be given to St. Ann Catholic Church or to St. Matthew 25 Care and Share Soup Kitchen. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 612 Wabash Ave, Lafayette, IN 47905 with Father Dominic Young officiating.
Inurnment will follow at a later date at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
