Debora “Debbie” Banes, 62, of Lafayette, passed away at 4:45 am Monday, November 23, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born August 12, 1953, in Lafayette, to Fredrick Devaney of Lafayette and the late Dorothy Coleman Devaney. Debbie graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1971 and on June 11, 1977 she married Homer Banes in Lafayette and he survives. Debbie served as Vice President of Deposit Operations at Lafayette Bank and Trust, where she worked for 25 years. She attended Schuyler Avenue Weslyan Church and enjoyed cooking and creating new recipes, watching her sports teams (Purdue, Pacers, Colts and Cubs), and hosting get-togethers with family and friends. She showed her love of Christ by always finding a way to do something special for everyone who was blessed to be a part of her life. She was a lovely lady and will be missed by many. Surviving along with her husband and father are a daughter, Heather Lewis of Lafayette; three sons, Todd Banes and Brad Banes both of Lafayette and William Banes (Holly) of Yuma, AZ; three brothers, Thomas Devaney (Pamela) of Rossville, Steven Devaney of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina and Doug Devaney of Lafayette. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Kayleigh Lewis and Alex Jones and a great grandchild Noelle Lewis. She was preceded in death by a brother Eddie Devaney. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 28th at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd Lafayette, IN 47909 with Rev. Allan Conley officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Vale Cemetery.Donations may be made in her honor to The National Kidney Foundation, American Diabetes Association, and/or Schuyler Avenue Wesleyan Church.
