Debbie Lynn Govert

On Thursday, September 9, 2021, Debbie Lynn Govert, loving partner, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 62. Debbie was born on July 14, 1959, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ken and Phyllis Tolen and graduated from Twin Lakes Senior High School in 1977. She went on to train at Lafayette Beauty Academy and started her 44-year hair styling career working at the legendary Debonair Beauty Salon.

Debbie is survived by her partner, Sir Marc Shumate (Captain); Bob (Stepdad) and Joyce (Stepmom) Kenworthy; brother Keith Tolen and Sister In-Law Vicki Tolen; daughter Mallory Govert; son Bret Govert and daughter in law Natalie Govert; grandchildren: Evan Govert, Grace Govert and Tyler Govert; and many loving family and friends.

Debbie had a lifelong passion for gardening, camping, outdoors, music and boardgames. She loved all of these things while being surrounded by her friends and family.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 23^rd, 2021, at Soller-Baker Funeral Home located at 400 Twyckenham Boulevard, Lafayette, Indiana 47909. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 7:00pm (EST). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society.

Debbie is in a much better place right now. Bret, May God bring you the strength and comfort to go through this difficult time. All my prayers to the Grovert family.

Condolences and prayers to all of Debbie's family. She was a sweet little girl and then went on to become a strong woman. May you rest in peace in our Lord's heaven dear Debbie.

I am sad for all of us. Deb was fantastic at everything. Such a spark, a ray of sunshine, a confident, listener, a hairdresser & stylist. I am sad for everyone. I hate that Deb left us so young, so soon. We will all miss her good nature, her laughter, her zest for life and her friendship. Rest in Peace my friend, and thank you for your wonderful friendship.

Debi was my hairdresser for 16 years. We developed a friendship that I treasure. She was rarely down, in spite of anything . She shared her life as I did with her. She was so creative and had great psychic skills at figuring out what I couldn’t tell her. I had to accept her illness, but I do know she lived life to the fullest, loved her family without exception, and gave of herself to those around her who needed her. I miss her.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
