David Lahr, born in Lafayette, IN, passed June 2. Graduating from Lafayette Jefferson High School May 1956, he entered the electrical apprenticeship program of Local 668 and was an active journeyman electrician for 44 years and a member of NECA-IBEW for nearly 68 years. He married Sandra K. Decker, June 4, 1960.
David’s lengthy community volunteerism reflected his love of family, friends, church, neighborhood and community. Activities include Cub Scout and church youth group leader, Home Hospital Game chairman, Jefferson Golden Bronchos Club board and president, Area IV Agency on Aging board, Tippecanoe County Public Library board, Lafayette Board of Zoning over 20 years, Long Center volunteer and temporary staff, Historic Ninth Street Hill Neighborhood Association founding member, president and board member, and longtime volunteer of Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette as board member, master carpenter and president. Honors include Crystal Bison Volunteerism Award, Tippecanoe Arts Federation 2010 Suzanne Stanford Award, and John Cherry Award.
David was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Edith Lahr, sister Betty Greenwood, brothers Keith, Gene, Warren and granddaughter Brooke Lahr. He is survived by his wife Sandra, sons Mark (Colleen) and Scott (Karen) grandchildren Anthony, Paul, Rachel, Kristin and great grandchild, Catherine Burger.
A private family memorial was held, June 9, at Tippecanoe Memory Garden, West Lafayette. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, June 29, at 6:00pm at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette, 320 N. 5th Street, Lafayette, IN.
